Both hailing from a rural farm town in South Dakota, Gary and Jan's journey together began when they tied the knot and later set their sights on Minnesota in 1962.

Upon their arrival, Gary swiftly secured a position as a floor installer. Over time, he transitioned into the world of carpet buying and selling, starting from their home and eventually establishing a storefront in Spring Lake Park.
